Abstract
In an attempt to evaluate the pathophysiologic role of serum complement (¥â1A-globulin) in Korean hemorrhagic fever, the author measured the complement levels (C3) by means of immunodifusion plate method in 24 patients with Korean hemorrhagic fever.
The results obtained were as follows;
1. The mean serum ¥â1A-globulin level in 20 normal controls was 84.5¡¾23.9mg/l00ml.
2. In the patients during the oliguric phase of Korean hemorrhagic fever, the mean serum ¥â1A-globulin level was 54.9¡¾22.1mg/100ml and there was significant decrease compared to the normal control group.
In the patients during the diuretic phase the mean serum ¥â1A-globulin level was 95.1¡¾29.2mg/100ml and there was no significant difference compared to the normal control.
In the patients during the convalescent phase the mean serum ¥â1A-globulin level was 89.5¡¾24.2mg/ 100ml but there was no significant difference compared to the normal control group..
3. During the oliguric phase, the mean serum 61A globulin level in patients group with peritoneal dialysis was 54.6¡¾24.4mg/100mg and in patients group without peritoneal dialysis, it was 48.8¡¾19.1 mg/100ml and there was no significant difference between two groups.
The same results were also obtained in patients during the diuretic and convalescent phases.
4. There was no significant difference in the plasma transferrin level between the oliguric and diuretic phases.
